ABOUT ME
Alyssa Zakaria is an Asian American writer/director whose unique perspective, stemming from growing up in a 98% caucasian and heavily Catholic suburb of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania during the early 2000’s, has not only shaped who she is as a person but also as a storyteller. Alyssa attended Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and graduated in 2015 with a BFA in Creative Producing.
Upon graduating, Alyssa worked as an assistant to Stephen Chbosky (Perks of Being a Wallflower, Wonder) and has since worked largely in the music space, shooting music videos and promotional content for various music artists. She is currently developing her feature directorial debut, The Way We Are, inspired by her own coming-of-age story.
Alyssa is passionate about telling stories rich in emotional depth and truth that are centered around sapphic themes. She also strives to center music as a powerful cinematic device within her narrative storytelling.
